Menu Monday

It's a short menu week here. We will be traveling to spend Thanksgiving with Tony's family in Wadena, MN. Can't wait for the all the yummy food!

So here's what's cookin' pre-Thanksgiving.

deep dish pizza/apple pie
broccoli soup/grilled cheese (my kids actually requested broccoli soup, weird!)
something on the road between here and Wadena. (I'd place my bets on Culvers or Subway.)

It takes two, it takes two, me and you!

Today marks the one year anniversary of this little blog. I can't believe I stuck with it for a whole year. Or that anyone besides my mom reads it.

I started this spot as a place to record my recipes in hopes of making meal planning easier and more organized. It has certainly done that for me. I don't always have time to get my recipes posted. I have so many photos in my picture file waiting to be matched up with their recipe. But I have never wanted this to be a burden and so they will come as time allows. I'm ok with that.

It has also been a place to document pictures and stories of my kids. I'm not a scrapbooky type of person. I tried. Evan has about 6 pages completed and stuff cut out for another 4. Poor Addie has nothing. And I have nothing professional at all of Isaiah. Not even cheap Wal-Mart photos. Sorry kids. Sorry Grandmas. But I do have stories and pictures archived here that can always take us back down memory lane. And I'm ok with that.

Then I started using this spot as a place to journal what God was teaching me. I needed to memorize more Bible verses so that they could come to mind and help me in my parenting and mothering and wifering. I'll quite often read something during my devotional time that is nourishing to me and I think about how good it is for exactly 2.5 seconds and then Isaiah wakes up and I'm off and running. Without this place to write it down, it would never get a second look, never get a chance to take root inside me and help me grow. And I'm grateful for that.

I'm also grateful for you. I appreciate each and every one of your comments. They are like hand written letters found in the mail. Each are cherished and read a couple times. I have enjoyed meeting people from far away that I never would have met. I love checking out other reader's blogs and learning from them. This blog wouldn't be what it is without you. It takes two.

And so, in honor of Housewifery's 1st birthday and to thank all of my readers, I would like to give away a game called 'Take Two'. It is a spin-off game of Scrabble where players each get a certain number of tiles and try to form connecting words. Once someone has used up all of their tiles they yell out 'take two' and everyone has to grab two more tiles and add them to their words.

The winner will receive one zippered and lined bag with tile pieces and game instructions. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment telling me what your favorite game is.
That's it.
One winner will be selected randomly on Sunday, November 22nd.
Check back to see if you've won!

Deer Hunting '09

Country road.....take me home....
to the place.....where I belong!
Ahhh, the prairie of southwestern Minnesota and deer hunting '09!
The days were filled with walkin' the field
following our hunters
with kids in tow
two days is not enough
but those days were filled with much fun
learning to bake Grandma Marian's Apple Pie
even the little ones
spending time with the ladies
(it looked like Ann was going to clock my mom over the head with her rolling pin, and smiling so joyfully while doing it!)

feeding the hungry hunters and getting some new recipes

playing with cousins
a round of football

and bagging the buck that would not die! (finally did after about 8 shots in 2 days!)

The End

Menu Monday

This was the fastest weekend. Deer hunting flew by. Probably because we usually stay till Monday, but this year with 2 in school and one without anymore vacation days, we came home Sunday night.

That means today is back to the regular Monday routine. Kids are off to school, hubby's off to work, groceries are bought, meals are planned. Here's what I'll be fixin.

chicken and dumplings
meatloaf/ mashed potatoes/ green beans
stewed indian chicken/rice/naan
deep dish pizza
baked ziti/garlic bread/corn

I'm always looking for more meal ideas. What are some of your meals lately?

Naan is a yummy, chewy, warm, tender Indian flatbread that is perfect with curry dishes. You just rip a piece off and use it as your spoon. A wonderful, tasty, edible spoon.

1 package active dry yeast
1 cup warm water
1/4 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons milk
1 egg, beaten
2 teaspoons salt
4 1/2 cups bread flour
1/4 cup butter, melted
In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Let stand about 10 minutes, until frothy.
Stir in sugar, milk, egg, salt, and enough flour to make a soft dough.
Knead for 6 to 8 minutes until smooth.
Place dough in a well oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and set aside to rise until doubled in size.
Punch down dough.
Pinch off small handfuls of dough about the size of a tennis ball.
Roll into balls, and place on a tray. Cover with a towel, and allow to rise until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
During the second rising, preheat oven with baking stone to 400 degrees.

Roll out one ball of dough in one direction. Bread should be oblong and thin.
Place dough on stone, and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until puffy and lightly browned.
Flip over to quickly brown other side.
Good as is or you can garnish with olive oil, garlic, and chopped cilantro.

Menu Monday on Tuesday

Oops, forgot to post my menu yesterday. Has the extra hour thrown off anyone else?

chicken fajitas/chips/guacamole
philly steak sandwiches/fruit
hamburger hash
eat up leftovers
on the road to deer hunting!!!!

Looking forward to a great weekend of family, food, grandma's apple pie baking lesson, cousins, games, and hopefully a good hunt!
