Housewifes Unite!

Alright Housewiferians, quiet down! Let's bring this meeting to order!

A fellow housewife needs our help.

Mama has mom...Mom Judy.

My mom has asked for help and I always obey my mom, and you should mom and your own mom :)

Mom Judy is in charge of serving about 70 people each Wednesday night at her church. She needs ideas for easy, inexpensive meals that could keep warm in 2-3 crockpots and feed about 70 people. She has already served spaghetti, BBQ's (sloppy joes), hot dogs, and chili.

What do you have?

What are your ideas?

What would you do?

Let's give her as many ideas as we can think of. Let's give her so many good recipes that she won't know which one to do first. She'll be set for the year. She won't have to repeat a meal.

Go through your recipe
repertoire and see what could be adapted.
Search every corner of your memory.
Surf every food blog you can think of.

Dust off that 1970's crockpot recipe book and see if there is anything usable.

Don't come back until you have found something!
Let's go!

Wild Rice Craisin Bread

This is one of my mom's fabulous homemade bread recipes. She has many in her arsenal. And if you are ever lucky enough to visit Camp Shetek, you'll get to taste them.

This one is good hot out of the oven with butter, toasted, or even room temp with butter. It's one of my favorites.

Wild Rice Craisin Bread
adapted from Judy Harms

1/2 c cooked wild rice
2 T sugar
1 1/2 t yeast
1 1/2 T oil
2 c white flour
1 c whole wheat flour
1 t salt
1/2 c craisins

Place 1/2 c wild rice in a 2 c measuring cup.
Add oil and enough water to equal 1 1/2 c.
Mix in sugar and yeast.
Add the flours and salt and knead.
Work in the craisins.
Put in an oiled bowl, cover and let rise until double in size.
Form into a loaf and let double in size.
Bake at 400 degrees for 20-30 min until golden brown and internal temperature reads 190-200 degrees.

Makes 1 large or 2 small loaves.

Back to the real world now, and people want to eat!
Here's the plan for this week.

chicken and dumplings
egg bake/muffins/fruit

What's on your menu? Or what did you make last week?

Menu Monday

It's cold and rainy. Definitely fall-ish. I love the change of seasons and the recipes that change with them. More soups and stews and hearty dishes are on their way.

pizza burgers/potato wedges/apple slices
egg bake/muffins/oj
beef stroganoff/noodles/green beans
panera tomato soup/grilled cheese
roasted chicken toastados

What's on your menu?
